FAQ:
- Is my warranty safe with Speedbox?
Yes, Speedbox is undetectable by dealer, but using Speedbox may void your warranty if you service the bike with tuning kit installed. We highly recommend removing Speedbox before servicing your ebike at your local dealer.
- Is it safe to use on my motor and battery?
Yes. Ebike motors were designed to be unrestricted, the speed limits are in place due to legislation, not safety of the motor. They are safe to use.
- Will my range drop after installing tuning kit?
It depends on your riding alone. If you pedal over regular 16mph restricted speed - the motor will use more power and more battery. Our experience shows around 20% decreased range, but 80% more fun in the remaining range.
- Will the Speedbox work with Bosch 85Nm update (2020 Gen4 Bosch Motors)?
Yes, it works better because after the latest update the oversensitive anti-tuning software from Bosch was tweaked and made less sensitive, which means no more 504 error.
- What about 504 error code with Bosch Gen4 Motor?
Before updating latest Gen4 motors (from 75Nm to 85Nm) the anti-tuning of Bosch was so sensitive that sometimes 504 error (anti-tuning error) popped-up without Speedbox installed. If your bike doesn't have the 2020-06 85Nm update we'd recommend installing Volspeed tuning kit. If the ebike has the update the Speedbox will work perfect, as long as you take care to let it's in-build count-down timer go to zero after each ride. For more information please read our FAQ section 'HOW SPEEDBOX WORKS'
- What happens if I get 504 error code? Is it bad?
It's not the end of the world. All you have to do is remove the Speedbox and ride without it for 20 minutes. The error will reset and you will be able to install the Speedbox again. We do recommend riding without a tuning kit at least 90miles (150km) before installing the tuning kit back, fully resetting the system. 504 error pops-up if you interrupt the count-down 5 times or more in a row. 3 times of 504 means you will have to take the bike to the dealer to reset it. These are extremely rare cases of 504 error, especially with 85Nm update.
- Should I buy Speedbox 2.0 or Speedbox 3.0?
We recommend going for Speedbox 3.0 for all Bosch ebikes newer than 2019. If your bike is 2014-2018 - feel free to go with Speedbox 2.0 for Bosch
- What is 503 error?
503 could mean few things - usually, it's either misaligned magnet with speed sensor on the rear wheel or bad connection from speed sensor. First please check alignment on the rear wheel, and then check if the connectors are not loose or if any speed sensor wires are damaged, that could happen during the installation.
- Do I need a crank-puller to install the Speedbox?
Depends on your motor. Gen4 motors usually are easily accessible without removing the crank. Gen3 (2016-2018) motors usually require a crank puller. You can choose to add a crank puller next to 'ADD TO CART' button
