Once you have an electric motorcycle, more power is tempting. But for a beginner, control, grip and comfort matter more. These are the upgrades worth your money first.
1. Tyres matched to your terrain
Stock tyres are often a compromise. Tyres suited to your terrain – soft for tracks and mud, harder for rocky trails, road tyres for tarmac – do the most for grip and confidence.
2. Brakes
Quality brake pads and, if needed, bigger discs or stronger calipers. Electric motorcycles are heavy and fast, so braking power is a safety matter.
3. Ergonomics
- Wider footpegs – better grip standing up and less fatigue;
- Handlebar and risers – the right bar height for taller riders;
- Seat riser kit – more comfortable for taller riders;
- Comfortable grips – less arm pump.
4. Protection
Bike protection pays for itself at the first crash: skid plate and frame guards, brake disc guards, hand guards. Cheaper than replacing broken parts.
5. Power – later
Stronger controllers (such as TORP) and batteries are a great next step once you have mastered the bike. For a beginner, too much power more often means crashes than speed. Also, adding power to a road-legal bike can change its legal status.
