An electric motorcycle has no oil, air filter or spark plugs, so there is less maintenance than on a petrol bike. But the whole chassis – chain, brakes, tyres, suspension – wears just the same, and the electronics like to be kept clean and dry.

After every ride

  • wash off mud with a gentle stream of water – no pressure washer near connectors, controller and battery;
  • check for loose bolts, damaged cables or cracks;
  • charge the battery (see the battery care tips).

Every 5–10 hours of riding

  • Chain: clean, lube and check tension. The Surron Light Bee also has a primary belt – check its condition.
  • Brakes: pad thickness and disc condition. Electric motorcycles are heavy and fast, so pads wear quicker than you might expect.
  • Tyres: pressure and tread.
  • Bolts: especially handlebar, footpeg, axle and brake mounts.

Every season or 50–100 hours

  • Suspension: fork seals (no oil leaks), shock condition, fork oil change as per the manufacturer.
  • Bearings: headset, wheel and swingarm bearings.
  • Chain and sprockets: replace together when teeth are worn.
  • Electrical connectors: check for corrosion and moisture.
  • Software: some models receive controller updates.

Winter storage

  1. Clean and dry the bike.
  2. Charge the battery to 40–60% and store it somewhere warm.
  3. Check the battery charge monthly.
  4. Lube the chain and inflate the tyres.
